CAMERON — It took nine hard-fought innings, but the Poteau Pirates baseball team was able to get past the Spiro Bulldogs 10-9 in nine innings to win the 32nd LeFlore County Baseball Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates went through unscathed as they beat Wister 6-5 in Saturday afternoon’s winner’s-bracket final after downing tournament-host Cameron 10-2 on Friday night in the winner’s-bracket semifinals.
The Bulldogs had to come through the loser’s bracket as they routed Panama 14-1 in three innings Friday night at Poteau High School’s Town Creek Park, then beat Cameron 11-4 and Spiro 11-6 on Saturday.
In loser’s-bracket action, Panama edged Heavener 4-3 on Friday at Town Creek Park before losing to Spiro, while Cameron eliminated Whitesboro 9-7 on Friday night on its home field in a game that ended just before midnight.
