EDMOND â€” It was another history day for Poteau High School cross country at Friday afternoon's Class 4A Pre-State Meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
The Pirates set the highest average time for a race as they averaged a time of 18:53 en route to coming in 13th place as a team with 345 points. The previous best average time was 18.55 earlier this decade.
The fastest individual time of the day on the 5k course was turned in by Daniel Stacy, who finished 49th (18:33.93).
Right behind Stacy was Nico Hall in 50th (18:35.01), followed by Ashby Clark in 79th (18:58.36), Dylan Fox in 80th (18:58.72), Tyler White in 93rd (19:21.49), Cuco Bustos in 131st (20:33.87) and Wesley Reeves in 145th (21:13.23). There were 178 runners in the field.
In the junior varsity boys' race, the fastest time was ran by Carlos Panduro with a time of 20:10, followed by Jayson Davis (20:31), Bobby Graham (20:46), Noah Martin (21:14), Bobby Elkins (21:15), Hunter Martin (21:42), Charles Graham (21:48), Josh Anderson (21:50), Daryl Callaway (22:18), Isaac Stacy (22:34), Matt Carmack (22:35) and Cody White (25:11).
In the high school girls' race, the Lady Pirates were 11th with 303 points.
Deven Bond had Poteau's highest finish as she came in 23rd with a time of 13:17. Sheridan Hoyer was 45th (13:41), followed by Colleen Peterson in 55th place (13:50), Edys Ocampo in 89th (14:28), Kayle Dryer in 91st (14:31), Tabitha Waldrop in 103rd (14:55) and Shandee Staton in 129th (15:26).
Two Lady Pirates ran in the JV race as Haley Clark ran the course in 15:59, while Kim Ocampo covered the course in a time of 16:12.
The Poteau High School cross country teams will return to action at 10 a.m. next Saturday at the Chili Pepper/University of Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Editor's Note â€” The Heavener High School cross country teams did not run Thursday at the Checotah Invitation. They will run instead in Saturday's Greenwood (Ark.) Invitational.
