Poteau boys soccer team handles Heavener in Thursday night's scrimmage; Lady Wolves, Lady Pirates play to tie

The Most Valuable Player of these two games between the Poteau and Heavener soccer teams in Thursday night's scrimmages at Costner Stadium was the powerful north winds. At times the winds blew so hard it added some wicked English on shots that went across the field.
In the boys' game, with the air stream at their backs, the Pirates scored five second-half goals and won the game 5-0.
In the girls' game, one cannot fully appreciate just how hard the wind was blowing, and how it affected this scrimmage. Both shots were scored at the south end of the field as the Lady Wolves and Lady Pirates played to a 1-1 tie.
