Poteau boys soccer team third, Lady Pirates fourth at Greenwood Tournament

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates soccer team placed third at last weekend's Greenwood Tournament, after winning it a season ago. The Pirates went 2-1 in the tournament, beating two Arkansas teams — Mena (3-0) and Van Buren (2-1 in sudden death overtime), but losing to Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside 2-1.
The Lady Pirates were fourth. The Lady Pirates won their first game of the season with a 1-0 win over Northside in a game decided by a shootout, but Poteau suffered losses to Van Buren (2-0) and Mena (1-0).
The Lady Pirates and Pirates will return to district play on Friday at Stilwell. The girls' game will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 7 p.m.
Last week's Westville home games which were postponed due to Poteau having the games slated for Thursday and Westville's schedule saying Friday have now been rescheduled for April 23 at Costner Stadium. The girls' game will take place at 5 p.m., followed by the boys' contest at 7 p.m.
