Poteau cross-country girls finish in top 10, Pirates 14th at state

EDMOND — The Poteau High School cross-country teams were able to keep their streaks intact with seasons with their full teams making state.
The Lady Pirates made state for the sixth straight time, and were rewarded with a top 10 finish as they came in ninth with 233 points in Saturday's Class 4A State Meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
Oklahoma City Mount St. Mary won the team state championship with 45 points, followed by Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (70 points), Vinita (105), Madill (143), Newcastle (187), Cache (188), Anadarko (191) and Tulsa Cascia Hall (194).
Deven Bond had Poteau's highest finish as she was 29th (13:13.09). Sheridan Hoyer was 39th (13:31.95), Colleen Peterson was 41st (13:34.79), Edys Ocampo was 88th (14:45.54), Kayle Dryer was 92nd (14:51.73), Shandee Staton was 98th (15:11.52) and Tabitha Waldrop was 107th (16:01.03).
The Pirates, who made their fourth straight appearance as a team at the state meet and are the current fastest group of boys in school history as far as average team time is concerned, finished 14th as a team with 303 points.
The team state title on the boys side was as close as ever. Anadarko won the Class 4A state title with 96 points, edging state runner-up Mount St. Mary by a point (97 points) and third-place Lincoln Christian by three points (99).
The highest finisher for the Pirates was Nico Hall, who came in 53rd (18:21.53). Dylan Fox was 66th (18:36.5), Daniel Stacy was 76th (18:52.28), Tyler White was 78th (18:53.09), Ashby Clark wa 84th (19:04.53), Wesley Reeves was 107th (21:05.41) and Bobby Graham was 108th (21:08.17).
