TULSA â€” The Poteau High School cross country teams competed Saturday at the Oral Roberts University Invitational, put on by Tulsa Bishop Kelley High School, amidst perhaps the best field of runners they've seen to this point in the season.
The Lady Pirates, who ran a two-mile course, finished tied with Pryor in 13th out of 21 teams with 327 points. Norman North won the meet with 31 points, well ahead of runner-up Owasso (114 points). Host Bishop Kelley was third (132 points), followed by Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness (150), Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (153), Coweta (168), Enid (174), Tulsa Holland Hall (215), Tulsa Union (241), Bartlesville (278), Sequoyah-Claremore (284) and Tulsa Cascia Hall (291).
Deven Bond had the highest finish for the Lady Pirates as she was 34th (13:55). Sheridan Hoyer was 38th (14:00), Colleen Peterson was 77th (14:52), Tabitha Waldrop was 97th (15:29), Edys Ocampo was 119th (16:10) and Shandee Staton was 142nd (17:43). There were 161 runners in the varsity girls' race.
The Pirates came in 17th out of 26 teams in the 5k race with 496 points. Host Bishop Kelley was first with 25 points, well ahead of Bartlesville and Norman North (132 points). Tulsa Union was fourth (147 points), followed by Tulsa Memorial (168), Tulsa Washington (182), Coweta (203), Holland Hall (217), Bishop Kelley's â€śBâ€ť team (229), Owasso (297), Heritage Hall (298), Sand Springs (308), Jenks (352), Grove (359), Pryor (430) and Bixby (491).
Dylan Fox was Poteau's highest finisher as he came in 53rd (19:04). Nico Hall was 90th (19:48), Daniel Stacy was 114th (20:30), Tyler White was 116th (20:32), Jayson Davis was 154th (22:17), Carlos Panduro was 156th (22:23) and Bobby Graham was 168th (23:15). There were 191 runners who competed in the boys' 5k race.
In the junior varisty girls' two-mile race, Poteau had three runners. Sonya Guerrero was 57th (17:23), Kim Ocampo was 76th (18:00) and Haley Clark was 77th (18:04).
In the JV boys' 5k run, the Pirates were 15th with 413 points. Norman North won the JV boys team title with 56 points.
Allen Daniels was 94th (22:14) to be Poteau's highest finisher. Bobby Elkins was 98th (22:22), Josh Anderson was 81st (23:03), Wesley Reeves was 141st (23:34), Charles Graham was 143rd (23:42), Daryl Callaway was 149th (24:04), Matt Carmack was 151st (24:07), Grant Wilson was 168th (25:19) and Cody White was 178th (26:27). There were 198 runners in the field.
The Poteau teams will return to action at the Inola Invitational on Thursday.
