TULSA â€” Once again, the Poteau High School cross country teams will end the season at the biggest race of the season â€” state.
The Lady Pirates and Pirates all qualified for this weekend's Class 4A State Meet, which will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edmond's Mitch Park.
The Lady Pirates were sixth and the Pirates seventh at Saturday's Class 4A Regional Meet at O'Brien Park.
For the Lady Pirates, two runners made the top 15 as Sheridan Hoyer was 11th (13:43.32) and Deven Bond was 13th (13:47.56). Tabitha Waldrop was 39th (14:35.28, a personal best), Colleen Peterson was 47th (14:48.56), Samantha Galetka was 71st (15:38.53) and Shandee Staton was 80th (16:13.02).
As a team, Poteau was sixth with 163 points. Tulsa Metro Christian was the regional champion with 25 points, followed by Seminole (101 points), Vinita (109), Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (139) and Newcastle (143).
For the Pirates, Daniel Stacy had the highest finish as he was 32nd (19:51.03). Nico Hall was 41st (20:11.36), followed by Will Longenbaugh in 42nd (20:21.67), Dylan Fox in 45th (20:39.19), Bobby Graham in 55th (21:05.15), Tyler White in 58th (21:10.69) and Josh Anderson in 78th (23:41.11).
The Pirates were seventh as a team with 190 points to snatch the last state-qualifying spot for teams. Metro Christian won the regional title with 36 points to make it a regional-championship sweep for the Tulsa school. Mannford was regional runner-up (67 points), followed by Heritage Hall (68), Jay (121), Bethany (144) and Tulsa Cascia Hall (148).
