Poteau cross country teams place third at Haworth Invitational

IDABEL — The Poteau High School cross country teams started the season strong as both the Lady Pirates and Pirates placed third at Monday's Haworth Invitational.
The Lady Pirates scored 63 points to place behind champion and host Haworth (46 points), which beat Durant (47) by a point.
The Lady Pirates had four runners place in the Top 15. Deven Bond was fifth (8:46), Colleen Peterson was 10th (9:03), Sheridan Hoyer was 11th (9:07) and Jazmine Warren was 12th (9:18). Tabitha Waldrop was 25th (9:47), Shandee Staton was 26th (10:04) and Edys Ocampo was 31st (10:34).
On the boys' side, the Pirates scored 70 points, placing behind champion DeQueen, Ark. (30 points) and Durant (54).
Four of Poteau's five runners placed in the Top 15. Nico Hall was third (15:43), Daniel Stacy was 10th (16:10), Ashby Clark was 13th (16:22) and Dylan Fox was 14th (16:29). Tyler White rounded things out with a 25th-place finish (18:14).
In the junior varsity girls race, Sonia Guerrero ran a 10:41, followed by Haley Clark (11:39) and Kim Ocampo (12:00).
Several Pirates ran in the JV boys race, led by Erick Sanjuan's time of 17:55. Cuco Bustos ran a 18:04, followed by Carlos Panduro (18:15), Jeff Radner (18:40), Bobby Graham (18:45), Christian Sanjuan (19:27), Josh Anderson (19:39), Daryl Callaway (19:39), Charles Graham (19:55), Alex Garcia (20:01), Isaac Stacy (20:01), Noah Martin (20:04), Allen Daniels (20:25), Bobby Elkins (20:28), Carlos Garcia (20:48), Hunter Martin (20:51) and Grant Wilson (23:36).
