Poteau cross-country teams qualify for next weekend's 4A State Meet

TULSA — The streak continues for the Poteau High School cross-country teams.
Saturday afternoon at the Class 4A Regional Meet at Oral Roberts University, the Lady Pirates and the Pirates each finished in the top seven in team standings to make the Class 4A State Meet, which will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 27 at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
The Lady Pirates made state for the sixth straight year as a team as they came in fifth in Saturday's regional meet with 145 points. Vinita won the team regional title with 63 points, followed by Newcastle (75 points), Sequoyah-Claremore (134) and Tulsa Cascia Hall (142).
Two Lady Pirate runners made the Top 15 individually as Sheridan Hoyer was ninth (13:43) and Deven Bond was 11th (13:51). Colleen Peterson was 24th (14:14), Iris Ocampo was 61st (15:30), Shandee Staton was 70th (15:47), Kayle Dryer was 72nd (15:53) and Sonja Guerrero was 86th (16:44).
The Pirates as a team made state for the fourth straight season, but it didn't come easy. The Pirates came in seventh, the final team state-qualifying berth, with 185 points. Lincoln Christian won the boys' regional title with 52 points, followed by Jay (70 points), Mannford (103), Tecumseh (129), Bethany (131) and Cleveland (144).
The highest Pirate finisher was Dylan Fox, who placed 33rd (19:40). Tyler White was 38th (19:54), Daniel Stacy was 40th (20:00), Ashby Clark was 41st (20:02), Nico Hall was 49th (20:35), Jayson Davis was 54th (20:46) and Carlos Panduro was 59th (21:01).
