The 2012 Poteau Football Banquet, which took place Friday night at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center, was not your ordinary football banquet. For one thing, the guest speaker was a Steve Edwards, Glenpool's football coach. As Greg Werner, Poteau's first-year coach, introduced the speaker, he made known to the crowd that Edwards handed him two losses while at Broken Bow, one in the Class 4A state semifinals and the other in the state title game.
As for the awards portion of the banquet, the usual awards were made to the cheerleaders, dance team and recognition of each football player was spoken.
As Werner began to present the individual awards, he thanked his coaching staff and the Poteau Pirate players for putting up with him and buying into his system of football.
The banquet ended with a highlight video of the 2012 season.
