The current Poteau Pirates freshmen football team entered Tuesday night's regular-season finale at Costner Stadium needing a win over the McAlester Buffaloes to complete a perfect 8-0 season, and complete a three-year undefeated stretch in which it went 22-0. The Pirates didn't disappoint their fans.
The Pirates scored on the opening drive and their defense had the bend-but-don't-break philosophy to keep the Buffaloes out of the end zone, as Poteau posted a 22-0 victory.
However, the season finales did not go as well for the Pansy Kidd Middle School teams as McAlester swept the Raiders, taking the eighth-grade game 44-8 and winning the seventh-grade contest 18-6.
