Poteau freshmen fall short against Broken Bow; JV team did not play; PKMS games canceled due to wet fields

October 15, 2013

BROKEN BOW — The Poteau Pirates freshmen football team came up a bit short against the Broken Bow Savages, losing 14-12 Monday night at Memorial Stadium.
There was no junior varsity game, and Tuesday's Pansy Kidd Middle School games were canceled at Costner Stadium due to field conditions — namely to keep the field as playable as possible for Thursday night's District 4A-4 showdown with Tulsa Cascia Hall.
“This is the second time in 25 years that I've canceled junior high games,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said.
“I don't ever do it, but in the big picture we need a good field on Thursday night. We need the field to be in good shape. I hate to do it to those kids, but maybe some day they'll understand when they're high schoolers. But we really need a good field for the game Thursday night.”
The PKMS games have not been rescheduled as of press time.
