Poteau freshmen have no problems with Vian; PKMS teams split with visitors

October 4, 2012

The Poteau Pirates freshmen football team had its stiffest test, or so it was appearing to be, Tuesday night at Costner Stadium when the Vian Wolverines came to town. While the Wolverines were trying to hand this bunch their first-ever loss, the Pirates had other ideas.
Even with freshman, and current varsity, running back Roger Barcheers in street clothes on the sideline, the Pirates did not miss a beat as they routed the Wolverines 41-6.
The Pansy Kidd Middle School teams split their games with Vian earlier on the evening. The seventh-grade Raiders used a late comeback to down the Wolverines 8-6, but the eighth-grade Raiders suffered a 36-6 loss to Vian.
All three teams will return to action next week. The freshmen will entertain the Broken Bow Savages at 6 p.m. Monday at Costner Stadium before the junior varsity game at 7:30 p.m. The PKMS teams will travel to meet Broken Bow with games beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Stadium.
