Poteau girls beat Harrah in regional opener; Lady Pirate ace throws three-hitter against Harrah, strikes out 13 batters to get within 10 Ks of 300 for senior season

SHAWNEE — The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team won its Class 4A Regional Tournament opener Thursday afternoon 4-0 over the Harrah Lady Panthers as senior pitcher RaeLynn Caldwell threw a three-hitter and struck out 13 batters.
The Lady Pirates (27-8) played regional host Bethel, which beat Seminole in Thursday's first game, in the winner's-bracket final Thursday night. The Poteau-Bethel winner will play for the regional title at 2 p.m. Friday, while the loser will play at noon Friday in the loser's-bracket final with that winner playing the Poteau-Bethel winner at 2 p.m. for the regional title, and a trip to the Class 4A State Tournament next week. The if-game is set for 4 p.m. Friday.
Caldwell (26-8) stands at 290 strikeouts for her senior year entering Thursday night's game vs. Bethel. She just needs 10 Ks to reach the magical number of 300.
