Poteau girls blank Wister in home opener

March 8, 2013

SAFE! — Poteau base runner Brianna Gregory, bottom, slides across home plate safely to score a run in the fourth inning as Wister catcher Ciara Covey, center, has the ball pop out of her glove as teammate, starting pitcher Ashlyn Meeks, left, backs up the play during Thursday afternoon's game. The Poteau Lady Pirates got to play on their new-look softball field for the first time this spring, and they didn't disappoint their fans Thursday afternoon.
Taking advantage of five Wister errors, the Lady Pirates were able to blank the Lady Wildcats 12-0 in a four-inning, run-rule victory.
Editor's note — Thursday afternoon's Heavener road game at Red Oak was canceled, with no make-up date scheduled.
