SHAWNEE — The good news on Friday at the Class 4A Regional Tournament at Bethel High School was, for starters, Poteau senior pitcher RaeLynn Caldwell surpassed the 300 strikeout mark for the season.
Secondly, for the third straight year, the Lady Pirates reached the regional final. Unfortunately for the third straight year, that was where the season ended as the Lady Pirates fell 4-0 in the title game to the host Bethel Lady Wildcats.
Poteau reached the title game with a 10-0, five-inning, run-rule win over the Seminole Lady Chieftains.
The Lady Pirates, who finish the season at 28-10, lost to the regional host Lady Wildcats 6-1 in the regional winner's-bracket final Thursday night.
Caldwell (27-10) struck out six batters in the regional final to finish her senior season with 308 strikeouts.
In Friday's win over Seminole, Caldwell got her 300th K on the third batter she faced, Seminole's Mikayla Marshall, in the opening inning.
