The Poteau Lady Pirates were the only team to go through the 2011 LeFlore County Fast-Pitch Tournament undefeated as they claimed their fourth straight title.
The Lady Pirates defeated the Panama Lady Razorbacks 4-1 amid rain sprinkles Thursday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Lady Razorbacks, who were the only team to score on Poteau in this year's tournament, posted a “gift” — and seemingly unlikely — rally in the loser's-bracket game against Spiro. Thanks to three Spiro errors, two of which happened with two outs and leading 7-5, in the seventh inning, Panama took advanatge of the “gifts” to score three runs to rally for an 8-7 victory.
Poteau Gets Bye into Class 4A Regional Tournament
Poteau was expecting to begin the Class 4A playoffs in two weeks. The Lady Pirates will have to wait a week longer.
The Lady Pirates were awarded a bye in the Class 4A District Tournament and automatically will be in the Class 4A Regional Tournament, which will be Oct. 6-8. Poteau will have to wait, in all likelihood, until Oct. 3 before knowing where the Lady Pirates will be sent for their regional tournament as well as the teams with which they will be paired.
