Poteau girls golf team opens season with second-place finish

BROKEN ARROW — The Poteau Lady Pirates golf team began defense of its Class 4A state title with a second-place finish in the Broken Arrow Invitational, which took place Monday at Emerald Falls Golf Course.
There were 12 teams in the tournament field, and Poteau was the only Class 4A team. The rest were teams from Classes 5A and 6A. Host Broken Arrow, a Class 6A team, won the tournament.
Poteau had two top-10 medalists. Defending individual state champion Hannah Ward was sixth with an 82, while Cathleen Manlove was 10th with a 94. Skylynn Terry had a 112, followed by Alyssa Vineyard at 113 and Jenna Stites with a 131.
