Once again, the Poteau Lady Pirates claimed their fourth straight LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Tournament title, but it didn't come easy.
The Lady Pirates had to hold off a late rally by the Heavener Lady Wolves to win 8-6 in the championship contest Thursday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
It was the second win Poteau got on the final day as the Lady Pirates downed the Lady Wolves 9-5 in the winner's-bracket final.
After losing to Poteau the first time, Heavener came back and posted an 11-7 win in the loser's-bracket final over the Pocola Lady Indians — who fell 18-4 to the Lady Wolves two nights before in the winner's-bracket semifinals.
Pocola was one of four teams who were in loser's-bracket action all day. The Lady Indians beat Spiro 6-4, then defeated Wister 6-3. The Lady Wildcats edged Panama 7-6 to stay alive at least for two games on Thursday.
