Poteau girls open season against Valliant on Thursday in SE Oklahoma Shootout; Lady Pirate senior forward among Vype magazine's Top 100 girls players to watch this upcoming season

December 4, 2013

Editor's note — Due to the Poteau High School football team making it to the Class 4A state title game, and having some of its players going to play on the high school basketball team, the Pirates will wait to begin their basketball season in next week's Wilburton Tournament at this point. Their season-preview story is scheduled to appear next week.
The Poteau Lady Pirates basketball team is coming off an 18-9 season last year, including winning the 2013 LeFlore County Tournament and winning their third straight district title.
The Lady Pirates will seek bigger and better things this season, which will begin at 1:40 p.m. Thursday against Valliant in the Southeastern Oklahoma Shootout at McAlester's Southeast Expo Center.
The Lady Pirates return several players back from last year's team. One of them, senior forward Kaitlan Standridge, has been named to the Top 100 list of high school girls basketball players to watch this season in Vype magazine.
