BROKEN ARROW — Playing in the Broken Arrow Tournament may have been cut short by the rain, but the Poteau Lady Pirates stayed perfect in the young season, picking up four wins with their power hitting and solid defense over the weekend.
After opening with a pair of victories over Class 6A powers Tulsa Union and Edmond Santa Fe early Friday, the undefeated Lady Pirates rallied for a 3-1 win over Glenpool on Saturday after run ruling Haskell 9-1 on Friday at Arrowhead Park.
Poteau was slated to play Yukon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, plus one more game, but as previous games were wrapping up, rains came down and tournament officials were forced to clear the park, eventually calling off the rest of the tournament.
Yukon, another solid 6A contender, was also unbeaten in pool play and had promise of a quality match for the Lady Pirates. A match-up against a team from another pool, possibly a championship, was to follow. But it was not to be.
