The Poteau Lady Pirates and the defending boys champions, the Spiro Bulldogs, were named the top seeds for the 2013 LeFlore County Basketball Tournament, which will be Jan. 21-27.
The Lady Pirates are off to a 5-3 start overall, heading into Thursday night's conference road game at Roland, and a 2-0 start to NOAA Conference play.
The other top four seeds are Spiro as No. 2, Talihina â€” last season's county runners-up â€” as No. 3 and Panama â€” the winner of the first-ever Green Valley Conference Tournament last weekend â€” as No. 4.
As for the rest of the girls seeds, Arkoma is No. 5, followed by Bokoshe at No. 6, Howe â€” last season's county champs â€” at No. 7, Heavener at No. 8, Whitesboro at No. 9, Wister at No. 10, Pocola at No. 11, Cameron at No. 12 and Leflore at No. 13.
The Bulldogs entered Thursday night's road game at Muldrow at 3-4, and beat Poteau in last year's county title game.
The Pirates, who were third at last weekend's Wilburton Tournament, are seeded third behind No. 2-seeded Pocola. Whitesboro, which won the blue bracket of the Eastern Oklahoma State College Classic on Dec. 8, is seeded fourth.
The rest of the seeds are Heavener at No. 5, Howe is sixth, Talihina seventh, Cameron eighth, Panama ninth, Wister 10th, Leflore 11th, Arkoma 12th and Bokoshe 13th.
nior High Tournament, the play-in games have been scheduled for as close to tournament week as possible. The girls play-in game between Cameron and Shady Point will take place at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at Monroe, followed by the boys play-in game at 4:45 p.m. between Bokoshe and Shady Point.
The junior high tournament sites have been determined. Games will take place at Monroe, the host school for this season's event, Howe, Wister and CASC'S Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
