Poteau girls win opener over Stilwell in Class 4A Regional Tournament

The Poteau Lady Pirates softball team took the first step in making it to next week's Class 4A State Tournament.The Lady Pirates handled the Stilwell Lady Indians 8-3 Wednesday afternoon to make it to Wednesday night's winner's-bracket final against the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers (25-10), who defeated the Broken Bow Lady Savages 7-0 in Game 2 Wednesday afternoon.“It was a long wait,” Poteau Coach Misty Collins said.The winner of Wednesday night's Poteau-Fort Gibson game will advance to this afternoon's title game at 2 p.m., with the if-game at 4 p.m.The first team to be eliminated from the regional tournament was the Lady Savages (24-11), who lost 8-3 to the Lady Indians (20-15).Stilwell will play the Poteau-Fort Gibson loser at noon this afternoon, with the winner meeting the Poteau-Fort Gibson winner for the regional title — and a trip to state.
