The Poteau Pirates golf team will be taking quite a bit of momentum into next week's Class 4A State Tournament at Lake Hefner North Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
The Pirates, who dominated the field at last week's regular-season finale at Pryor, won the Class 4A Regional Tournament on Monday at Wolf Ridge Country Club to earn a berth to the state tournament, which will be next Monday and Tuesday in the state capitol city.
The Pirates won the regional with a 36-hole score of 314-310—624, beating Sallisaw by five team shots as the Black Diamonds shot a 320-309—629.
Poteau's Cody Shore was the individual regional champion with a 70-73—143.
Connor Wheat was fifth (78-79—157), while Jarrett Lowrimore tied for seventh (83-76—159). John Scott Sanders carded an 83-82—165, while Connor Bandy had a 99-96—195.
Unfortunately one county golfer did not make state as Heavener's Colt Dunigan did not qualify for state at the Class 3A Regional Tournament at Scissortail Golf Course in Verdigris. He shot a 98-94—192, but it was one of his stronger outings this season.
