OKLAHOMA CITY — Poteau golfer Cody Shore was fourth-place medalist at this year’s Class 4A State Tournament, which took place Monday and Tuesday at Lake Hefner North Golf Course. He shot a 67-71-71—209. His finish was Poteau’s best since Zac Poole, who played collegiately at East Central University in Ada, was state runner-up in 2004.
As a team, Poteau was sixth with a three-round score of 912. However, the Pirates had a very strong finish to the season. After the first 36 holes on Monday, the Pirates were at 300-307—607. On Tuesday, Poteau shot a 305 as a team for the final 18 holes. While the Pirates stayed in sixth place, they were able to surpass Sallisaw. Last year, they were 11th, and 12th in 2011.
Ada, which was tied for first place with Oklahoma City Heritage Hall, won the state title outright. Heritage Hall was second, followed by Elk City, Weatherford and Metro Christian.
Connor Wheat was Poteau’s next highest golfer. After shooting a best 76 on Tuesday, Wheat finished the tournament with a 77-78-76—231.
Two shots behind Wheat was Jarrett Lowrimore with an 76-79-78—233.
