Poteau, Heavener football teams scrimmage each other Friday night

The Poteau Pirates and Heavener Wolves football team will finally get to see somebody new, each other. The two squads will scrimmage each other at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Heavener’s Harvey Stadium. Both coaches have some things they are wanting to see out of their teams tonight.“As always, we’ve got some spots we have to solidify,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “Hopefully, we can work on our timing and get our timing down. We’re going to put kids out there and see if they can play. There’s a lot of positions up for grabs. We need to find out who needs to play. We tell our kids that this is the opportunity, and our kids had better take advantage of the opportunity.”“We’re just trying to polish up and get better,” first-year Heavener coach Sam Hembree said. “We’re not concerned with who scores. We’re just trying to get better and do our assignments.”Editor’s note: Talihina’s home scrimmage against Valliant that was scheduled for Friday night at Doc Robinson Stadium was moved to Thursday night.
