STILLWATER â€” There was an invasion of LeFlore County cross country runners at Oklahoma State University on Saturday as the Poteau and Heavener high school cross country runners competed at the OSU Jamboree.
In the Class 4A-5A girls division, the Lady Pirates were ninth with 283 points, coming in behind team champion Canyon (Texas) Randall (31 points), Awty International of Houston (59), Plainview (68), Deer Creek-Edmond (113), Oklahoma City Heritage Hall (181), Fort Worth (Texas) Southwest Christian (181), Plainview, Texas (192) and Coweta (236).
Deven Bond medaled in the event for the Lady Pirates as she was 15th (12:38.26). Haley Griggs was 47th (13:34.53), Sheridan Hoyer was 60th (13:54.77), Kayle Dryer was 74th (14:19.01), Brittany Fox was 120th (15:29.33) and Bayleigh Bates was 126th (15:40.07).
For the Pirates, Dylan Fox had the highest finish as he came in 90th (19:11.79) in the Class 4A-5A boys division. Edwin Espinoza was 161st (21:07.29), Isaac Stacy was 163rd (21:17.03), Noah Martin was 175th (21:45.54), Arturo Medina was 184th (22:36.78), Allan Daniels was 187th (23:02.04) and Ashby Clark was 193rd (24:14.29).
As a team, the Pirates were 27th with 725 points.
In the Class A-2A-3A girls division, the Lady Wolves had two runners. Gloriann Staines was 96th (16:55.57), while Ali Paxton was 99th (17:56.59).
Arturo Ortega had the highest finish in the Class A-2A-3A boys division for the Wolves as he came in 62nd (20:18.03). Octavio Sanchez was 101st (21:41.78), Frank Cruz was 105th (21:56.78), Jacob Robertson was 132nd (25:27.78) and James Cinocca was 133rd (25:35.28).
As a team, the Wolves finished 18th with 528 points.
All the local runners will return to action this Saturday at different meets in Arkansas. The Poteau runners will compete at the University of Arkansas Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, while the Heavener runners will be at the Greenwood Bulldog Invitational.
