Poteau High School wrestlers will begin season Thursday on the road against Glenpool

The Poteau High School basketball teams began their seasons on Tuesday. Now, it's the wrestlers' turn. The Pirates will begin their 2011-12 season at 7 p.m. Thursday in Glenpool before going to the two-day Jay Border Wars, which will begin at 2 p.m. Friday.“We're real anxious,” second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee said. “We've been beating up on each other. We're just anxious to go compete against some other people. We want to put a person out there at each weight class. Our numbers are down a little bit, but I think our quality is up. We don't have a lot, but what we have I really like — and I like our progress. The kids want to work hard, and they have been working hard. If you work hard, good things will happen to you.”ScheduleDate Opponent(s) TimeDec. 1 at Glenpool 7 p.m.Dec. 2-3 Jay Border Wars 2 p.m.Dec. 6 Talihina 7 p.m.Dec. 15 Newcastle, at Blanchard NoonDec. 15 at Blanchard 1 p.m.Dec. 16-17 Weatherford Tournament NoonJan. 3 Sequoyah-Tahlequah at Vian 5 p.m.Jan. 3 at Vian 6 p.m.Jan. 5 at Quinton 7 p.m.Jan. 6-7 at Cushing Tournament NoonJan. 10 at Stilwell 7 p.m.Jan. 12 at Fort Smith (Ark.)
