Poteau Legion baseball through for summer; no Okmulgee games or state tournament

July 20, 2011

It took a while to get the final verdict, but in the end there will be no more baseball for the Poteau American Legion AAA team this summer.
Poteau Coach Shain Turnipseed said that the final regular-season doubleheader against Okmulgee in Wister will not take place.
The twinbill was to have taken place Friday, but did not. Turnipseed was hoping that maybe the doubleheader could have been played Sunday afternoon, but the Okmulgee coach never got back with him until Tuesday morning. Turnipseed said that the Okmulgee coach said he wasn't going to play the games.
Also, the Legion Open State Tournament in which Poteau was to participate July 27-31 in Woodward will not take place for Poteau due to the fact that there will not be enough players to field a team for that trip.
The 2011 Oklahoma State American Legion AAA Tournament was canceled due to not having enough teams in the state.
Poteau ends the season at 15-14, which concluded with a four-game losing streak.
