Poteau looks to beat Idabel for fourth straight season

September 9, 2011

WEEK 1 WINNERS FOR POTEAU — The first Bluebeard and Blackbeard Awards for the 2011 season were handed out Wednesday afternoon. The Poteau Pirates football team will get one last shot at the Idabel Warriors — as the two teams will not meet after this season — at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Idabel. Although the Pirates (1-0) can go to 2-0 with a win, just to end the series on a high note is important to Poteau Coach Jeff Broyles.
“For me personally, this is kind of a big game. This is my seventh season as head coach, and I'm 3-3 against them. My first three years, I lost to them. The last three years, we've won. Traditionally, we've had tough times with Idabel. We're not going to renew with them after this year, so I'd like to go out on a winning note. Having our kids go 2-0 is important, so this is a big game for us. If you're doing well, every game is big. That's what we're trying to build on."
