Going into the final game, the Poteau Pirate coaches knew that the Tulsa Rogers Ropers were a team of freshmen and sophomores only, and Greg Werner, Poteau's first-year coach, made it quit clear in the pre-game speech that he want the seniors to have a fun night. It was obvious from the very beginning that he was going to call the plays that would put the seniors in favorable positions to score in the 2012 regular-season finale Friday night at Costner Stadium.
Poteau scored quickly, but the Pirates could not seem to shake the Ropers until late in the first half. Rogers scored two touchdowns to bring the score to 21-14 before the Pirates righted the ship and scored 2 TDs late in the half. Poteau lead 34-14 at the intermission, then pulled away to win the game by the score of 62-14.
