Poteau Pirates to entertain Mena in final scrimmage before next week's season-opening game

August 23, 2012

It's hard to think that there's a finality in preseason games, but that's the case for the Poteau Pirates football team.
Poteau's new coach, Greg Werner, said that tonight's 6 p.m. scrimmage at Costner Stadium against Mena, Ark., is an important one for many reasons.
“This is it,” Werner said. “We've got to get all these things taken care of now. We're behind, so maybe we can get some things learned and get some things figured out.”
Tailgate Party Tonight
The Poteau Pirates Quarterback Club will have a tailgate party from 5 to 6:30 p.m. tonight at Costner Stadium. The menu includes chili dogs or plain hot dogs with chips and a drink for $4.
Community Pep Rally Tuesday Night
The Poteau Pirates Quarterback Club third annual Community Pep Rally will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Costner Stadium. The Poteau High School band will perform as well as will the Poteau High School cheerleaders and dance team.
There will be a dance-off between classes, and the players will be signing autographs.
