The good news is the Poteau Pirates footbal team is 2-0, and that's because of a pair of dramatic wins — the last one being Friday night at Costner Stadium in a thrilling 43-40 come-from-behind victory over the Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers.
“We've proven we can come back, so we can just stop that now — and play some football, and not have to worry about coming from behind any more,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “But we did show a lot of heart Friday night, but we need to get after it early and quit getting so far behind.”
The Pirates will take their undefeated record on the road for the first time this year as they will meet former District 4A-4 foe Tulsa Webster at 7 tonight at Reed Park in Tulsa. It was found out about two weeks ago the game was being moved from Friday night to tonight, which makes for a short week of preparation.
“It's tough,” Werner said. “We're beat up pretty bad. We've got a lot of kids out right now. It's going to be tough, but we can't complain about it. We have to play, and I think we've adjusted well. I think we'll be fine.”
