The Poteau Pirates football team hopes to be celebrating a happy homecoming at night's end after what they hope will be a District 4A-4 victory over the Fort Gibson Tigers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. tonight at Costner Stadium.
Greg Werner, Poteau's first-year coach, believes his 10th-ranked Pirates are focused on the task at hand — upsetting Class 4A's sixth-ranked Tigers.
“It's always what you make of it,” Werner said. “Our kids understand that 7:30 is when things take place. It won't be a distraction. It's going to be a big night. There's going to be a big crowd here for homecoming. I don't see it (homecoming) as being a problem.”
