Poteau Pirates welcome Stilwell for homecoming

October 4, 2013

The Poteau Pirates Quarterback Club handed out its Week 4 Blackbeard and Bluebeard Awards for last week's game at Sallisaw. Del Wytovak, second from left, is the Blackbeard Award winner for defense, while Jarrett Lowrimore, second from right, is the Bluebeard Award winner for offense. Sharing the moment are Poteau coach Greg Werner, left, and Quarterback Club President Joy Womack. The awards are sponsored this year by Brad Fenton Motors. PDN photo by David Seeley

While the Poteau Pirates will hope for a happy homecoming tonight when they entertain the Stilwell Indians at 7:30 p.m. at Costner Stadium, last week was a pretty happy one, too, for the locals after the Pirates ended a six-game losing streak to the archrival Sallisaw Black Diamonds in a 34-9 victory.
“It was a good win for us,” Poteau coach Greg Werner said. “It was a good win for our program. It was a good win for the town. Hopefully, that can propel us to bigger and better things. It was a big deal for us to win.”
