December 3, 2012

TYLER TUSTIN

JAY — The Poteau Pirates wrestling team placed eight of its matmen in last weekend's Jay Duals Tournament.
Senior Tyler Tustin won the 138-pound title and was named the tournament's outstanding wrestler.
Gabe Sanchez (195 pounds) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight) were runners-up, Devin Anderson (120) and Derek Francis (170) were third and Sam Shore (132), Kyle Kingrey (160) and Khy Mote (182) were all fourth.
In the duals, the Pirates went 6-3 on the day, beating Fayetteville, Ark. (51-18), Springfield, Mo. (52-10), Diamond, Mo. (39-28), Keys (Park Hill) (63-10), Stilwell (42-26) and Rogers, Ark. (51-29), but losing 42-36 to Coweta, host Jay (42-24) and Bentonville, Ark. (45-36).
“I was very please with our effort this weekend,” said Jack Hornbuckle, Poteau's first-year coach. “We definitely have areas we need to improve on, which is to be expected. On paper we were the underdogs vs. Stilwell and Rogers, and came out with good wins.”
The Pirates will return to action 7 p.m. Thursday in a road dual at Van Buren, Ark.
