MOORE — It was quite a banner day for the Poteau Lady Pirates track team at the Class 4A State Meet at Lions Stadium. The capper was when sophomore Kandace Standridge not only won the state title in the 800-meter run but broke the Poteau High School record in the event by about two seconds. Standridge's winning time was 2:20.61, breaking the school record of 2:22.55 that was set nearly a quarter of a century ago.
The 3,200-meter relay team of University of Central Oklahoma signee Deven Bond, Haley Griggs, Sheridan Hoyer and Standridge set a school record as they were state runners-up with a time of 9:41.69, breaking the old mark of 9:53 that was set the same season the 800-meter run was in 1990.
The 1,600-meter relay team of Maddison Williamson, Hoyer, Jazmine Warren and Standridge set the third record of the weekend, placing third with a record time of 4:04.58, breaking the old record of 4:05.37 set in 1979.
As a team, the Lady Pirates were fourth with 40 points, finishing behind state champion Plainview (105 points), Vinita (101) and Broken Bow (52).
