The Poteau Lady Pirate senior basketball players were unable to come away winners on Senior Night against Muldrow on Feb. 7 at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, thanks to the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, they can still win their last game on their home court. The Lady Pirates will entertain the Hilldale Lady Hornets at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse for the Class 4A District Tournament. The Pirates and Hornets will follow at 8 p.m.
If the Lady Pirates win tonight, it would make them back-to-back district champions — which would please them all.
“That would be awesome,” senior Addie Guthrie said. “We didn't win the County Tournament, although we probably should have been in the finals. But winning a district championship will make up for that.”
“It will be our last home game,” senior Meagan Ryburn said. “We want to come out with a win. We want to win a district championship and prove people that we can. I don't think people expect us to do good (this postseason). I would like to prove a lot of people wrong.”
The Lady Pirates are entering postseason on their second two-game winning streak, the last one occurred en route to capturing fifth place in the 80th LeFlore County Tournament.
“I think that we're clicking now,” senior Briley Benson said. “Now, we just need to keep winning.”
