HEAVENER — The Poteau Pirates soccer team finds itself somewhere it had hoped to be at this time last year — the Class 4A state semifinals.
The Pirates avenged a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Heavener by doubling the Wolves 4-2 in the state quarterfinals Friday night at Harvey Stadium.
The Pirates (10-5) will play in the Class 4A state semifinals at 6 p.m. tonight on the road against Oklahoma City Mount St. Mary, which defeated Oklahoma City Southeast 2-0 in another state quarterfinal game Friday night.
The perfect season aspirations for the Wolves (11-1) came to a halt with the loss.
