Poteau soccer boys defeat Oologah in state quarterfinals

OOLOGAH — The past two trips the Poteau Pirates soccer team made to Oologah, both resulted in victories — but both wins came by a single goal, and both victories came late in the second half.
In Friday night’s Class 4A state quarterfinal game, the Pirates came out with focus and resolve and bridled the Mustangs.
The Pirates scored eight minutes into the game and never pulled back on the reins as they won by the score of 6-2. to put the top-ranked Pirates (14-1) into the state semifinals against the Bethany Bronchos at 7 tonight at Costner Stadium.
The No. 2 team in state, Oklahoma City Santa Fe South, will face the Fort Gibson Tigers in the other semifinal. The two winners will meet at 8 p.m. Saturday at the University of Tulsa’s Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium for the state title.
