Poteau soccer boys survive playoff game at Oologah; Pirates to get rematch with Heavener Friday night in state quarterfinals

May 3, 2012

OOLOGAH — The farther the Poteau Pirates made it into the Class 4A State Soccer Playoffs, the teams were going to be tougher — and scoring was going to be a lot tougher than in previous games. That was so true in Tuesday night's second-round playoff game.
Oologah scored at the 17-minute mark of the first half and had a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Pirates came out in the second half and scored two early goals —- then played strong defense the rest of the way to win the game 2-1.
The Pirates will get a rematch with LeFlore County rival Heavener, which blanked Riverfield 3-0 Tuesday night at Harveyh Stadium, in the state quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Friday at Harvey Stadium. The Wolves beat the Pirates 3-2 in double overtime April 17 at Harvey Stadium.
