The 2014 high school county soccer games, the yearly match-ups between Heavener and Poteau, took place Tuesday at Costner Stadium, with the home teams winning to celebrate Senior Night.
The Pirates sealed up the District 4A-6 title with a 4-0 victory over the Wolves, while the Lady Pirates kept their playoff hopes alive with a 7-0 shutout of the Lady Wolves.
The district-champion Pirates will have a two-week rest before they face a play-in winner at Costner Stadium. As long as the Pirates keep winning, they would host the first-round game, travel for the second game, host the semifinals and travel to a neutral site for the Class 4A championship game.
The Wolves, who entertain the Fort Gibson Tigers at 7 p.m. next Tuesday at Harvey Stadium, should finish second and host a play-in game, but then they would be on the road for the remainder of the year, with a possible trip to Clinton looming on the horizon.
The Lady Pirates will entertain the Porter Consolidated Lady Pirates at 5 p.m. Thursday at Costner Stadium, with a ticket to the playoffs awaiting the winner.
The Lady Wolves will wrap up their season with a 5 p.m. game against the Fort Gibson Lady Tigers at 5 p.m. next Tuesday at Harvey Stadium.
