The Major League All-Star Game is not until July 10 at Kansas City's Kaufman Stadium, but for one LeFlore County softball player, there's an all-star game Monday night.
Poteau Lady Pirate Shelby Standridge will play in the 2012 Sparkler College Exposure All-Star Game Monday night in Westminister, Colo.
Standridge, who plays with the Oklahoma Elite softball team in the summer which went to the World Series last August in Kansas City, Kan., will showcase her talents in both the outfield and at shortstop while representing her team at the Sparkler College Exposure All-Star Tournament.
Standridge, who will be senior this next school year, batted .455 last fall with 16 runs batted in. She had 14 stolen bases, with 45 hits — of which 12 were doubles and four were triples. Her on-base percentage was .505, while her slugging percentage was .657.
By participating in these all star games, Standridge could earn the opportunity to play in the 2013 New York City Central Park All-Star Games July 7-13, 2013 — which are the same games last July that Panama Lady Razorback soon-to-be senior pitcher Taylor Eaves was a part of last summer.
