YUKON â€” Five Poteau High School track athletes won medals at the Class 5A State Meet, which took place Friday and Saturday at Yukon High Schoolâ€™s Miller Stadium.
Deven Bond won three medals, two individually. Bond was third in the 3,200-meter run (12:12.04) and fourth in the 1,600-meter run (5:33.3). She was part of the third-place 3,200-meter relay team of Colleen Peterson, Haley Griggs and Kandace Standridge that had a time of 9:56.88.
Standridge was a multiple-medal winner as well as she was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:24.73).
Trevor Shankle scored the Piratesâ€™ two points of the state meet as he was fifth in the shot put (48-5.5).
The Pirates had three individuals compete at state. Kendrick Hardaway, who is a member of the Class 4A state title soccer team, was 10th in the 200-meter dash (22.98 seconds), Shankle was 11th in the discus (133-10) and Troy Barnett was 12th in the shot put (45-3).
On the girls side, the Lady Pirates had two other relays place, but did not medal. Peterson, Brittany Fox, Standridge and Latifah Harris were seventh in the 1,600-meter relay (4:15.25), while Marissa Smith, Peterson, Brianna Steele and Harris were 14th (1:52.89).
As a team, the Lady Pirates were eighth with 26 points.
