Poteau Valley Humane Society has been at its present location since 2006 when two families of Poteau, the Reed Family and George Ollie Jr., provided funds to building the beautiful facility on Industrial Boulevard.
Since the incorporation of PVHS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1995 the organization has rescued and re-homed thousands of dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens who otherwise would have had to be euthanized or perhaps would have met another tragic fate.
The mission of the organization is twofold:
To rescue abandoned, neglected, and abused companion animals in Poteau and surrounding communities in order to place them in permanent, loving homes which gives them the opportunity to live the healthy, happy lives which they deserve.
To educate citizens of LeFlore County about the benefits (to animal and owner) of spaying and neutering companion animals—the only, real solution to the pet overpopulation crisis which is much more critical than most people realize unless it is brought to their attention.
PVHS relies solely on monetary and supply donations from compassionate people to meet the operating budget each month. Average number of animals being provided for each day at the shelter is 65. Food, water, cleaning supplies and medicines are just some of the daily operating expenses incurred.
For further information on how YOU can help the animals by donating your time as a volunteer, about providing daily supplies, or about making a cash donation, please contact us. 918-649-0986 or email: poteaupets@clnk.comwww.poteaupets.org. Be our friend on Facebook/poteauvalleyhumanesociety.
