Poteau wrestlers get road dual win over Stilwell

January 12, 2012

STILWELL — The Poteau Pirates wrestling team posted a 37-29 road dual win over the Stilwell Indians Tuesday night.
The Pirates (11-5) won seven matches on the night, of which four were by pins by Devin Anderson (120 pounds), Tyler Tustin (132), Derek Francis (170) and Gabe Sanchez (195).
Will Longenbaugh got a decision win at 126 pounds, Khy Mote got a major decision at 160 and Tanner Sanders won by forfeit at 145.
It was the second time the Pirates beat the Indians. Poteau defeated Stilwell 54-15 during the Jay Border Wars last month. This time around, it was not quite the same.
“It was a little closer than it was the first time,” second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee said. “They had a wrestler move in who wasn't there the first time. We were able to have a good effort and get a good win. We wrestled good enough to win, and we won the matches we were supposed to win.”
The Pirates will be in a triangular beginning at 7 p.m. tonight at Fort Smith (Ark.) Southside along with Union Christian Academy, Ark.
