Jack Hornbuckle, Poteau's wrestling coach, knew his team was going to have its hands full facing the Sallisaw Black Diamonds and the Wagoner Bulldogs in the Class 4A District Duals, which took place Thursday night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse. Unfortunately for the Pirates, Hornbuckle's concern came to pass.
The Pirates lost 42-36 to the Black Diamonds and 54-23 to the Bulldogs to end up 0-3 in this year's district duals, after losing to Fort Gibson 44-33 last month.
The Bulldogs claimed the district title by not only beating Poteau, but handling the Black Diamonds 46-16 to earn the trip to next month's Class 4A Dual State Tournament. The ’Dogs beat Fort Gibson 48-24 Tuesday night to make it a 3-0 run in the district duals.
