Poteau wrestlers pin losses on Blanchard, Newcastle

December 17, 2011

BLANCHARD — The Poteau Pirates wrestling team posted road victories over host Blanchard and Newcastle in Thursday's triangular. The Pirates defeated the host Lions 44-16, while pinning a 42-27 loss on the Racers.
In the win over the Lions, the Pirates (9-4 this season in duals) got pinfall victories from Devin Anderson, Tyler Tustin, Tanner Sanders, Derek Francis, Chevy Galetka and Luis Gonzales, while getting forfeited wins by Grant Wilson and Daylon Brewton.
In the victory over the Racers, it was much the same. Anderson, Tustin, Francis and Gonzales won their matches by pinfall, while Brewton, Kyle Kingery and Hank Galetka all won by decisions.
“It was a good day,” second-year Poteau Coach Chris Barbee said. “It was a long trip out there, but the kids responded well. We were able to get some momentum early in our matches. Now, we're just looking forward to this weekend's Weatherford Tournament.”
The Pirates will close out the pre-Christmas Break portion of their season by wrestling in this weekend's Weatherford Tournament, which ends today.
