For the second straight season, there will be two Poteau Pirate wrestlers at the Class 4A State Tournament.
At Saturday's Class 4A Regional Tournament in Cleveland, Okla., Poteau's Tyler Tustin and Kaydon Evans qualified for this weekend's state tournament at Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena.
Tustin, who won state a season ago, won the regional title at 132 pounds, while Evans — who came out midseason — battled his way back to be third at 138 pounds.
One more Pirate wrestler placed as Derek Francis was fifth at 160 pounds, which was one place shy of qualifying for state. However, he is an alternate should one of the eight wrestlers who did qualify for state cannot compete.
At the Class 3A Regional Tournament in Inola, one Talihina Golden Tiger placed as Dylan Chancellor was sixth at 195 pounds, but he did not qualify for state.
