Problem a thing of the past

August 12, 2011

The manager of Poteau
Valley Improvement
Authority said Thursday
that the efforts of county
citizens and a break in the
weather has taken care of
the distribution problems
PVIA was facing just last
Don Goforth said in a
phone interview that he
and his staff have seen
marked improvement at
the PVIA water treatment
plant since he contacted
the newspaper last week
asking citizens to voluntarily
conserve water during
peak hours.
The problem that PVIA
was beginning to see was
not with water levels at
Wister Lake, nor with the
treatment plant but with
distribution. He said they
were unable to fill the
tanks back to capacity during
the night for usage the
next day. Meaning they
were in danger of not
being able to pump water
into the pipes fast
“Those people who
worked to conserve water
during our peak hours
really did help take the
edge off. That coupled
with the weather this week
has allowed us to level
off,” Goforth said. “We
really appreciate their
efforts and unless the
weather goes back to the
extreme drought and heat
it looks like we have made
it over the hump
